Take Back Our Lives 2017

Students march to protest oppression, promote unity

April 26, 2017

“Whose streets?”

“Our streets!”

Through the soft, Tuesday evening rain, Kansas State students and community members marched across campus and through Aggieville, protesting and raising awareness for the injustices faced by marginalized people in the Take Back Our Lives rally...

On April 25th, we held a rally and march inspired by our previous annual Take Back the Night marches. While Take Back the Night focuses specifically on empowerment against sexual violence, the current political moment necessitated a broader scope for this year's march. The Take Back Our Lives rally/march focused on many forms of violence and called for justice.

Several K-State students stepped up to the mic during the rally to express their frustration with exploitation, genocide, police murder, rape, settler-colonialism, military occupation and war, environmental racism, white supremacy, transphobia, homophobia, Islamaphobia, xenoophobia, and heteropatriarchy. Many of these students also offered words of encouragement and inspiration to fight back against these forms of violence.

The march took place directly afterwards, covering much of campus as well as a loop through Aggieville. Several students gathered in the Union after marching to rock out with Jade Archetype.

We would like to give a big thanks to everyone who joined us in solidarity!

Take Back Our Lives 2018

On April 30th, 2018 we held our second annual Take Back Our Lives rally and march. This year we brought in poet E Nina Jay who brought her powerful and moving presence and words to our audience. We made this years rally and march bigger and better than the year before with an open mic, music and food. We wanted to include people from any marginalized group and have anyone feel welcome and like they could speak up about any issue they were passionate about. We as an organization and individuals in the audience were standing up for/ fighting for LGBT+ rights, black lives matter, the me too movement, ending gun violence in America, DAPL, wage gaps and so many more.

This event was all about ending violence in all its forms.
